Dating advice–Eastern European men?

My bf is Slovakian. The whole not showing emotion thing drives me nuts, but he is just strange in so many other ways! I don’t know what’s just him and what’s cultural, or what he’s thinking. What is the romance culture of Eastern Europe like? Advice please? What are little cultural idiosyncracies maybe I should be aware of?
yeah, these cultures are similar but unique also. I’ve heard slovakians are kind of like Germans in being restrained with emotions. not like he’s completely repressed or anything, just…he doesn’t feel this southern american need for constant assurance, cuddling. last night I have heard, “girl, you know how I feel, do I have to say it again?”

It’s pretty scary dating someone from a completely different sphere. I’m also dating a Serbian guy (see my questions for the full story), but he’s completely open, emotional, unafraid to cry (with me), sweet, funny– the whole gamut. And from what I’ve heard (from a Slovenian friend, btw) Slavic guys tend to be on real emotional rollercoaster rides. Seriously hot and cold. So hiding emotion doesn’t seem to fit the bill…? I just watched Underground, the Kusturica film, and even though it’s a comedy of sorts, you tend to get a feeling for the kind of hot-blooded emotional people they are. I’ve also spent some weeks in Serbia, and from spending time with my guy’s family, I feel like they’re fiercely loyal, choleric people. I’m still finding the ropes myself, actually, so I’m going to keep n eye on the answers you get… =)
